Neighbors new Pet
The neighborhood I live in is set up in one plus acre lots with lots of room between homes. Not the most high tech neighborhood where there are lots of dirt roads. Now I am blogging on 16GB internet cable access. The area is set up for families. Now like any other neighborhood there are dogs or cats you can find at any given time.
I can now say my next-door neighbor completely fenced in their yard to house a pet horse. It is kind of humorous that the horse will be found laying on the front porch. They use internet technology to purchase their horse supplies, this is where the internet enhances treatment and maintenance of a horse of coarse. For the last few month it looks likes horses take very little maintenance, who am I kidding the left-overs are almost as big as my pom-chi.
Advertisers becoming Googlized
The Internet Power Google as a new service for advertisers called AdPlanner. The new service will give advertisers a clearer picture of where they should be looking to place ads online. Pick me, Pick me. The Google Adplanner will suggest a list of websites, using user demographics that will suggest a list of websites Google recommends an advertiser where it should place their ads. I believe they missed something, pick me.
The Google AdPlanner will combine information from it’s vast array of resources, Google search data, opt-in anonymous Google Analytics data, opt-in external consumer panel data, and other third-party market research. The millions of user’s data is then ran though the famous computer algorithems with no personally-identifiable information giving its results
Google Ad Planner is designed for advertisers and ad agencies. The tool gives you .csv exports, MediaVisor exports, and demographic estimates. I am sure this will be the tool that dominates them all.

The Phishers Nightmare EV SSL certificates
Working to make our websites safer. Time to de-rod the phishers
Todays websites can be exploited with cross-site scripting vulnerability that can be used by attackers to bypass access controls such as the same origin policy. These guys have too much time on their hads. The vulnerabilities of this kind have been exploited to craft powerful phishing attacks and browser exploits. I seen many of these on a daily basis. Cross-site scripting carried out on websites were roughly 80% of all documented security vulnerabilities
Cross-site scripting bugs are exploited by identity thieves and phishers, this lets attackers insert their own malicious code into legitimate pages but have also been used for other purposes. Cross-site scripting-XSS is a type of computer security vulnerability typically found in web applications which allow code injection by malicious web users into the web pages viewed by other users.
Online payment provider PayPal has patched a critical cross-site scripting vulnerability just last month. The next step to avoid cross-site scripting using Extended Validation-EV SSL certificates, that are a step above standard SSL certificates, the owners must go through more stringent background checks. They will be introduced to reassure users that an online site is legitimate and not a fake site hosted by phishers. PayPal was one of the first commercial sites to use an EV.
We all need to be using Extended Validation SSL certificates, thus squashing those phishing bastards from the internet pond and keeping e-commerce transactions safer.

Old Craft of Glassblowing now utilizing Technology
One of the oldest known crafts of Glassblowing started over 2000 years ago in Europe. Glassforming techniques involves inflating the molten glass into a bubble, or parison, with the aid of the blowpipe and human lung power from a blow tube. The craftsman who blows glass is called a Glassblower, Glassmith, or a Gaffer.
The ancient techniques of Glassblowing is a glass forming technique that was was invented by the Phoenicians around 50 BCE. They even have pieces of the blown glass that was found along the Syro-Palestinian coast.
There are three furnaces used in Glassblowing.
The first, furnace contains a crucible of molten glass.
The second furnace, Glory Hole, used to reheat a piece in between steps of working with it.
The third furnace, the Lehr is used to slowly cool the glass that is done over a period of a few hours to a several days. these techniques have been developed to help keep the glass from cracking due to thermal stress. Historically, all three of the furnaces were contained in one furnace, the furnace has a set of progressively cooler chambers for each of the three purposes.
Glass Blowing’s major tools that are involved in glassblowing are the blowpipe,or blow tube, the punty,or pontil, a bench, a marver, jacks, paddles, tweezers, blocks, and a several shears. The tip of the blowpipe is first preheated, then dipped in the molten glass in the furnace. The molten glass is gathered up onto the blowpipe. I am kinda glad I work in IT.
The glassblowing tradition was carried on in Europe from the medieval period through the Middle Ages to the Renaissance in the demise of the Roman Empire in the fifth century ACE. During the early medieval period, the Franks manipulated the technique of glassblowing by creating the simple corrugated moulds and developing the claws decoration techniques. IT, Computer and Internet companies love the Olympics
The final testing of the computer systems for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, has began, the system testing has been going on for the past year perparing for the big stage on August 8.
As we all know in IT, the computer system testing is key to the success of the IT systems during the games. Each sport, from archery to basketball to sailing and weight lifting has been allocated its own set of IT gear, and each of those systems have been tested for the past year until the start of the Olympic games.
The price tag for IT and communications at the world’s biggest sporting event will run to around $400 million USD and e will use the expertise of thousands of IT managers and engineers.
Atos Origin SA has been responsible for building the IT systems at the past few Olympic Games and is responsible for the design, build and operation of the IT systems in Beijing. Atos has said work on the IT systems used for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino, Italy, started two and a half years before the event and underwent 100,000 hours of testing.
Beijing and six other cities will host 302 sporting events, meaning the IT systems will have to track all aspects affecting athletes: qualifications, transportation to competition sites, ensuring uniforms and equipment arrive on time as well as tallying scores for press and spectators.
But IT has an even bigger task. That Task is to baby sit close to 20,000 reporters and other media that will attend the Olympic Games as well as workers and fans. All will create demand for IT work, including venue administration, information distribution, network security, e-mail, Internet and mobile access to scores, logistics, commentator information systems and more.
Volunteers and sponsorship will play a major part in the Olympic Games. There will be 2,000 to 3,000 paid IT workers at the Beijing games, and 3,000 volunteers.
The Olympic Games have now turned into the cutting edge of getting information about the events to press and viewers. 400 Million is a lot of bandwith.
* 28 sports (302 events)
* 60 venues (31 for competition)
* 10,708 athletes
* 5,000 person IT team (including volunteers
* 12,800 computers
* 2000 printers
The IT used and maintained during the Olympics is kinda like the Super Bowl of how IT should be utilized at a major international event. ![]()

Old school Appliances meets online distribution
For many years my wife and I have had several appliances that we have owned like refrigerators, washers, dryers and dishwashers. It is nice to have your own appliances, but if they break you have to fix them or pay someone to fix them. A few years back the appliance part place was only about 10 minutes away. Then when overhead started costing more for parts distribution warehousing, the appliance part distributor consolidated to one central area warehouse about 37 miles away.
Now that technology and ecommerce have matured, when the motor on my Frigidaire dryer went out, I called the Frigidaire Parts warehouse, while on hold the Frigidaire company suggest you might try their website. Hung up I am there, it was very nice with new school online ordering, catchy name ApplianceHelp.com, just put in the serial number or model number and their database finds the part for you. This online ordering distribution saved me allot of time and fuel by having the part delivered to my doorstep. I may never need to go to the parts warehouse again. The next time I need parts for my dishwasher, refrigerator, oven, stove, washer or any of my other appliances they are just a few clicks away. We are all reaping the benefits of online distribution technology.
