Mine and my wife’s favorite anniversary would have to be the year I gave her diamonds. For most people that would require a trip to the jewelry store but for my wife it meant a trip to an animal shelter. Our neighbor had told us about a dog at the shelter that no one was showing any interest in but she said she knew we would be interested in her. She had had a rough start in life and it had taken it’s toll on her. I secretly went to the shelter first thing the next morning after my wife cried most of the night about the plight of this poor dog. When I got to the shelter I told them about the dog I was looking for and they had a hard time finding her. At last they found her in a flagged cage! It was her last day. They brought her out to me and tears were in my eyes as I saw this little creature not certain of what was happening until she saw me! She knew she was going home and so did I. I took her and gave her a bath for the big event. She and I picked out a diamond studded collar at the pet store as I told her about how special her Mom was. When we came home from our anniversary dinner I told my wife I had something for our anniversary that she was going to love. I told her I had gotten her diamonds because that is what everyone said she would like. Her response was she doesn’t need diamonds but she said she knew if I picked them out she would love them. At that moment I brought in our newest family member “Diamonds”. When she saw her she cried like nothing I had ever witnessed. She was so touched and grateful and said that she could not stop thinking about that poor dog. Diamond’s tail was wagging and she and I were crying but it was still my favorite anniversary!
