The quest for free audio books

Children have one of the best enviroment for learn in the history of the world.  You can read a book, listen to a book or even watch the book in a form of a movie. This is pretty cool when you think of it with those options. Libraries provide a great many books in hardback and audio. The movie part is if the book is made into a movie. I know do not have time to read books but I can listen. If your library does not carry the audio books you want, which make them free audio books to you, audio books can get expensive to purchase. The minimum price would be starting at $30 dollars. The question I have is why are audio books more expensive that movies, the only expense you have is paying the reader and recording studio.  But you can buy a copy of a movie that cost $200 million dollars to make for less that $20 dollars. Go figure. I am more along lines of offering audio books for free with paid commercials, just like TV.  What do you think? If not then is is the library for me.

Let it stay in Vegas

Summer is dwindling down, I really need to go on a Vegas vacations. There is lots to do in Vegas, just spending a few nights visiting all the state of the art casinos would be worth the trip alone.  A small trip to he Hoover dam, it looks really amazing on tv. Then if you like shows Vegas has shows from the blue man group, Penn and Teller, I even think cher is making another comeback. I almost forgot about all of the WPT poker tournaments that are croping up there. Vegas is the place to visit and then you leave all there. I thnk there is an SEO expo somewhere close this week.

HDTV, Movie Time and theater seating

If you have or thinking about getting a home theater, do it, it will be a good thing for the entire family. We use ours every week, pop in a DVD movie, pop popcorn and turn on the big screen HDTV with home theater stereo. Over  the years the HDTV technology on home theaters have gotten better and better each year. About 10 fold each year. The pixels go higher and price go lower. I like LCD for my choice.

What ever your budget is, get the largest HDTV you can afford and home theater dvd system. I am wanting to get some nice leather home theater seating to go with the stereo sound acoustics and the giant screen HDTV to watch. Some things I would like to have is a professional popcorn machine, some movie posters in frames,  cinema decor and theater signs.

Digital is King at Movie Box Office

It is amazing this weekend movie Dark Knight pulled in around $155 million dollars in the U.S. I believe on Tuesday afternoon the money made from the Dark Knight will show foreign box office. You can follow it on Box Office Mojo. I hope it reaches over $200 million total. It will change another record.

Do not know if you noticed that all of the top-box office money makers are all heavy digital created movies. Top Movies of all time Titanic, Pirates of Carabean along with Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and Harry Potter. All heavy digital created movies. The latest the crop of digital movies, Ironman, Indiana Jones, Kung-fu Panda and now the Dark Knight. The Dark Knight is the second installment of Batman with Christian Bale in the suite, in this movie he takes on the Joker Heath Ledger. The Dark Knight set the week end box office Total with $155 million passing Spiderman another digital enhanced movie, it did about $800 million when it was done.

Dark Knight: King of the weekend box office: long live the King.

Music’s new emerging media

I have been noticing the shrinking of the number of CD’s available, but on the opposite site I am finding several really good music download sites. It is looking like the MP3 players crowd is changing the music platform again. First we had record albums, then 8-track tapes, cassette tapes to CD’s and DVD’s for music storage. I still have a record player with albums, a 8-track tape recorder, yes a rare recorder among all the other types of music devices. The music news has been reporting the 10-14 percent decrease in CD sales and 30-40 percent increase in the MP3 music downloadable format. It looks like the generation Y is setting a new trend via MP3 Players.

Life’s little Enjoyment: iPod

We have gone from a CD listening lifestyle to an electronic digital music playing world. The world was created via MP3. Then the New world evolved with the Apple iPod. All my nephew’s and Nieces live with their ipods straped to their side.  The newer devices are coming out with iPod nano’s with video. It is so called the world’s most popular music player, It is now that zune is backing down development. Now it will be called the world’s most popular video player. I am not sure about watching movies on a two-inch display.

Anyway as long as my nephew’s, niece’s and children like them.

IT, Computer and Internet companies love the Olympics

The final testing of the computer systems for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, has began, the system testing has been going on for the past year perparing for the big stage on August 8.

As we all know in IT, the computer system testing is key to the success of the IT systems during the games. Each sport, from archery to basketball to sailing and weight lifting has been allocated its own set of IT gear, and each of those systems have been tested for the past year until the start of the Olympic games.

The price tag for IT and communications at the world’s biggest sporting event will run to around $400 million USD and e will use the expertise of thousands of IT managers and engineers.

Atos Origin SA has been responsible for building the IT systems at the past few Olympic Games and is responsible for the design, build and operation of the IT systems in Beijing. Atos has said work on the IT systems used for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino, Italy, started two and a half years before the event and underwent 100,000 hours of testing.

Beijing and six other cities will host 302 sporting events, meaning the IT systems will have to track all aspects affecting athletes: qualifications, transportation to competition sites, ensuring uniforms and equipment arrive on time as well as tallying scores for press and spectators.

But IT has an even bigger task. That Task is to baby sit close to 20,000 reporters and other media that will attend the Olympic Games as well as workers and fans. All will create demand for IT work, including venue administration, information distribution, network security, e-mail, Internet and mobile access to scores, logistics, commentator information systems and more.

Volunteers and sponsorship will play a major part in the Olympic Games. There will be 2,000 to 3,000 paid IT workers at the Beijing games, and 3,000 volunteers.

The Olympic Games have now turned into the cutting edge of getting information about the events to press and viewers.    400 Million is a lot of bandwith.

* 28 sports (302 events)
* 60 venues (31 for competition)
* 10,708 athletes
* 5,000 person IT team (including volunteers
* 12,800 computers
* 2000 printers

The IT used and maintained during the Olympics is kinda like the Super Bowl of how IT should be utilized at a major international event.  :)
