The Phishers Nightmare EV SSL certificates
Working to make our websites safer. Time to de-rod the phishers
Todays websites can be exploited with cross-site scripting vulnerability that can be used by attackers to bypass access controls such as the same origin policy. These guys have too much time on their hads. The vulnerabilities of this kind have been exploited to craft powerful phishing attacks and browser exploits. I seen many of these on a daily basis. Cross-site scripting carried out on websites were roughly 80% of all documented security vulnerabilities
Cross-site scripting bugs are exploited by identity thieves and phishers, this lets attackers insert their own malicious code into legitimate pages but have also been used for other purposes. Cross-site scripting-XSS is a type of computer security vulnerability typically found in web applications which allow code injection by malicious web users into the web pages viewed by other users.
Online payment provider PayPal has patched a critical cross-site scripting vulnerability just last month. The next step to avoid cross-site scripting using Extended Validation-EV SSL certificates, that are a step above standard SSL certificates, the owners must go through more stringent background checks. They will be introduced to reassure users that an online site is legitimate and not a fake site hosted by phishers. PayPal was one of the first commercial sites to use an EV.
We all need to be using Extended Validation SSL certificates, thus squashing those phishing bastards from the internet pond and keeping e-commerce transactions safer.
Blog Stats for Wordpress
Blog statistics come in two forms, one that can be seen from the WordPress Admin panels for us blog owners and and the other for visitors to see.
I am trying to make up my mind which is the best WordPress Plugin to use.
The Stat Traq can provide you with details of your statistics in graphic charts and lists. The plugin will monitor page hits, page views, session time, incoming and outgoing links. There is a speed up plugin to make stat traq go faster
WP-SlimStat offers flexibility and interesting stats on your blog, localization, displays post titles for popularity statistics, has email reports, IP to country, and will show you visitors and unique IPs not just site hits.
If you have any suggestions, please comment below.

New Life for XP
Why stop XP
This month three of the top four PC sellers worldwide will sell computer systems with Windows XP right up to the Microsoft-mandated deadline of June 30. This is insane. Why stop a product that works and everyone likes.
This mandate of Microsoft saying to stop selling XP pro on June 30 for retailers and major computer makers is kind-of-crazy. MS has finally got the XP pro to a working operating system, why stop now.
Now for sanity. There seems to be a clause in the Microsoft’s guidelines that lets the computer makers install Windows XP Professional on new PCs at the customer’s request when those machines are ordered with Windows Vista Business or Windows Vista Ultimate. Wahoo for this, I like the thinking, where there is a need, fill it.
Dell has make the announcement that they will use the downgrade clause to offer buyers XP Professional preinstalled long after the June 30 deadline. I guess I have done support too long, my motto, if it is not broke, do not change it.
What do you think???
Windows 7 is Coming Windows 7 is Coming
New latest kid on the block is the Windows XP 7. No I mean Windows 7, supposedly the successor to Windows Vista. The Windows 7 will incorporate the graphical user interface to bring touch-screen technology to your pc or laptop. Very cool upgrade. Is the speed going to increase, and not be such a memory hog. I can dream can I not.
You can now go to their blog and view a video demonstration of Windows 7 multitouch screen capabilities. Windows 7 multitouch software will enable you to use your fingers to draw pictures on-screen, zoom in and out of photos, zip quickly through slideshows, search and skim maps, and even play an on-screen piano on your desktop or laptop PC. The multitouch features will be accessable via Windows 7 operating system and usable with third-party software.
Cool, maybe this operating system will be faster and less hardware dependant.
The Dark Corners of the Web
We all know there is bad ware on the internet. But this is getting to be a problem.
It’s getting harder and harder to know who to trust on the World Wide Web the bad guys are finding new ways to place their malicious software on our computers. These are often times by compromising Web sites that we trust.
With the help of one of its sponsor companies, Google and StopBadware maintains a list of 200,000 Web sites that are known to be associated with malicious downloads. These are the sites we nuke in the case of computer issues like in terminator
Delivering malicious software on legitimate sites has been a disturbing trend over the past year,
We as Web surfers know that visiting gambling or pornographic sites could harm your computers, but lately attack code can be downloaded from almost anywhere. I had one down load from an anti-virus site.
The way cell phone communicate a person’s techno-awareness to the others, the use of cell phones, a digital cameras or any type of laptop computers and scanners printers tells about a persons knowledge of the world today.
StopBadware has seen this happening with Web advertising networks, which can easily be subverted by attackers to serve up maliciously encoded scripts and images.
eBay is looking into ways of curbing a similar problem. The online auction giant allows users to put their own images and HTML code on its site, but sometimes this leads to “bad code”. Under the proposed system, eBay power sellers with good security ratings would be given more free rein on the types of features they could add to their stores.
Another growing source of concern is social networking.
Users should also be wary of fake accounts, we all know there is no such thing as a fake account, wink, only legit ones :), set up on legitimate social networking sites, which are often designed with one thing in mind: to lure unsuspecting users to malicious Web sites.
So with all this badware, is the Internet a more dangerous place to be? We just need to protect our selves and need some thing to seek and destroy the bad.
Off with their heads
